Description

Ingredients

  • 1 cup (200g) granulated sugar
  • 1 tbsp cocoa powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2/3 cup (160ml) vegetable oil
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2/3 cup (160ml) buttermilk
  • 1 tbsp red food coloring
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp white vinegar
  • 10 crushed Oreo cookies
  • For the frosting: 1/2 cup (115g) unsalted butter, 8 oz (225g) cream cheese, 2 cups (240g) powdered sugar, 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 6-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, mix the oil, eggs, buttermilk, red food coloring, vanilla, and vinegar until smooth.
  4. Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix until just combined.
  5. Fold in the crushed Oreos gently.
  6. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans and bake for 25–30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  7. Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  8. For the frosting, beat butter and cream cheese together until creamy. Add powdered sugar and vanilla, then mix until smooth.
  9. Frost the cooled cakes and decorate with additional Oreo crumbs if desired.
