Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups blackberries (fresh or frozen)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar (divided)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup milk
  • 0.5 cup unsalted butter (melted)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a mixing bowl, add the blackberries and sprinkle with half of the sugar. Toss gently to coat.
  3. In another bowl, combine flour, baking powder, salt, and the remaining sugar. Whisk to mix.
  4. In a separate bowl, mix milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract until combined.
  5. Gradually add the milk mixture to the dry ingredients, stirring until just combined.
  6. Pour the blackberry mixture into a greased 9×13-inch baking dish, then pour the batter over the berries without stirring.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes or until the top is golden brown and a toothpick comes out clean.
  8. Cool for 10-15 minutes before serving warm, optionally with vanilla ice cream.

Notes

For a dairy-free version, substitute milk with almond or coconut milk and use dairy-free butter.
