- 4 cups blackberries (fresh or frozen)
- 1 cup granulated sugar (divided)
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 0.5 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup milk
- 0.5 cup unsalted butter (melted)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a mixing bowl, add the blackberries and sprinkle with half of the sugar. Toss gently to coat.
- In another bowl, combine flour, baking powder, salt, and the remaining sugar. Whisk to mix.
- In a separate bowl, mix milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract until combined.
- Gradually add the milk mixture to the dry ingredients, stirring until just combined.
- Pour the blackberry mixture into a greased 9×13-inch baking dish, then pour the batter over the berries without stirring.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes or until the top is golden brown and a toothpick comes out clean.
- Cool for 10-15 minutes before serving warm, optionally with vanilla ice cream.
Notes
For a dairy-free version, substitute milk with almond or coconut milk and use dairy-free butter.
